The 700 miles of roads in Livingston Parish aren’t the only areas covered by the Sheriff’s Office. The LPSO also patrols over 100 miles of inland waterways within the Parish through its Water Patrol Division. We have one of the largest recreational boating areas in the state here in Livingston Parish, with the Lake Maurepas and Manchac areas in addition to the Amite, Tickfaw and Blind Rivers.
The parish is joined on three sides by water, so we also work to support the law enforcement agencies in surrounding parishes. We have staff on call 24-hours a day, seven days a week to respond to calls for stranded boaters, boating accidents and to assist with search and rescue efforts. We also take reports of burglaries and other crimes at camps and businesses located along the waterways and conduct regular patrols by boat during the week to help deter crime and prevent boating accidents.
